This year we are celebrating Jacuzzi's 60th anniversary and sharing the incredible history. Jacuzzi is the most widely recognised name in the whirlpool industry and a name that defines a combination of ideas and innovative technologies.
It all started in the 1900s when the Jacuzzi brothers moved from Italy to the United States. They made their mark in aviation with the construction of the first enclosed-cabin monoplane, and later turned their attention to water systems and pumps in California’s orange groves.
In the 1950s, when a young Jacuzzi family member was stricken with rheumatoid arthritis, the brothers designed an aerating portable pump that could be submerged in a bathtub to provide pain-relieving hydrotherapy. The J-300 pump became a celebrated invention of the era. After being advised to market the pump to consumers, the J-300 hot tub??(not sure it was a hot tub at this stage) was developed and Jacuzzi was on the road to becoming a household name.
It was in the 1960s when Jacuzzi created and marketed the world’s first whirlpool bath, the ‘Roman’. Innovative therapy jets were incorporated into the sides of the pumps and produced 50/50 air to water ratio, creating a spa experience that couldn’t be found anywhere else.
Jacuzzi invented larger hot tubs in the 1970s to accommodate groups of people and, for the first time in modern history, anyone could indulge in a relaxing and invigorating spa treatment with friends and family in the comfort of their own home. During the 1980s Jacuzzi focused on enhancing the home spa experience even further, introducing models that worked as hot tubs, whirlpool baths or both.
In the 1990s Jacuzzi products continued to promote a sociable lifestyle and as a result of high street sales, more energy-sufficient hot tubs were created.
Today, Jacuzzi continues to design and create innovative hot tubs and wellness centres and is one of the leading brands in hydromassage products.
