Cleaning Your Hot Tub

Posted by Kris Kemp on

Your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub helps you take great care of your body, so it goes without saying that it should be well maintained, too. As the spring-cleaning season approaches, don’t forget to include your hot tub on your To Do list. Here’s a checklist of what we recommend tidying up in the next few months in regards to your spa and its accoutrements:

Clean the Cover
Your hot tub cover is exposed to the elements year-round, and as such needs occasional care. A cleaning every month (not just every spring!) will keep your cover looking good and help it last longer. First use a nonabrasive cleaner like Jacuzzi® Cover Conditioner, then wipe the cover down with a damp cloth or sponge before rinsing with warm water. Got extra grime? Allow the cleaner to work its magic for a few extra minutes before wiping it down.

Check Filters
Spraying off your hot tub’s filters each week is a great habit to get into, but a faucet or hose can’t completely rid your filter of dirt and debris. This April, replace your filter if you haven’t done so. If you’re recently replaced your filter, now’s a good time to give your filter a dip in a Filter Cleaner to really clear it out. In general, we recommend that filters receive this overnight treatment monthly, but be sure to check your filter instruction manual before soaking your filters; some varieties should not be soaked due to risk of disintegration.

Clean Pillows
The cleaner that you use to sanitize the shell of your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub can also be used to clean any pillows you might have. When cleaning your pillows with a water-filled hot tub, spray the cleaner onto a cloth rather than directly onto the pillow. Wipe the pillow gently with the rag, then wipe again with a fresh wet rag.

Clean Steps
If you have single- or double-steps leading up to your hot tub—whether they’re plastic, mahogany, teak or synthetic wood—it’s important to keep them clean. Wipe the steps down with a damp cloth after every few hot tub sessions and give them a good scrub this spring.

Drain and refill your water
Get into the habit of draining and refilling your hot tub water every three to four months, or more depending upon usage. In other words, this task should definitely make it on your spring-cleaning list! First completely drain the water, then wipe the tub’s surface with a damp cloth or all-purpose cleaner. Carefully inspect your spa for wear and tear before using a hose with an attached filter to refill the tub. Be sure to take your time balancing chemicals based on directions on the bottle.
This spring, set aside some time to make sure your spa is spic and span. You’ll keep your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub running smoothly for years to come by regularly maintaining its exterior and accessories.
