Questions
To play Questions, all information exchanged must be in the form of a question. For example, Player 1 will say, “Have you seen the new movie?”; Player 2 may respond with, “Is that the movie with the superhero?”; and Player 3 can ask, “What is the superhero’s name?” Only questions may be asked; no definitive statements may be made as the conversation evolves. If a player takes too long to answer a question or asks a rhetorical question, another player can call a foul and is awarded a point. Once a player reaches a set number of points (the number varies and can be predetermined by your team), he or she is declared the winner.
Fact or Fiction
In this game, each player states two things about themselves. One statement is true, and the other is false. For example, Player 1 will say, “I like green beans and I shower twice a day.” Player 2, 3, and 4 must decide which statement is false. There are no real winners or losers, and this game can be great for getting to know your friends and family better.
I’m Going on a Trip…
This is a slightly more complicated game to play, and can provide an amusing window into the mental processes of your friends. During each round, a player announces he’s going on a trip and bringing a specific item (or person) with him. Add a twist to the game by requiring that each follow-up “I’m bringing” follows a secret rule you’ve made, such as requiring that the item begins with the first or last letter of the item the previous player declared. As an example of using the last letter, Player 1 says, “I’m going on a trip, and I’m bringing a papaya.” Player 2 says, “I’m going on a trip, and I’m bringing an aardvark.” Player 3 says, “I’m going on a trip, and I’m bringing a kettle.” And so on and so forth. You can add further variation to this game by adding color or size requirements to the items, but the trick is to see how long it takes other players to catch on to your formula.
Your hot tub is a natural place to congregate during a party, and these games can help keep conversation flowing during your gatherings. Remember to limit yourself to about 20 minutes for each session in the hot tub, regardless of how much fun you’re having, and keep plenty of water or other beverages on hand to stay hydrated.
